EMMA BARNES, 28, boss of BabyCakes in Carlisle
BUSINESS
What was your first job?
Waitress
What other careers might you have liked?
Primary school teacher or pilot
What’s the best thing about your job?
Flexability and the lovely warm feeling you get when you see someone’s face light up because of your creation.
What’s the best thing about doing business in Cumbria?
The friendliness of people. You always know someone who knows someone.
What’s the best bit of advice you have ever been given in your working life?
Just go for it, what’s the worst that can happen.
Who are your heroes?
My Gramps
What’s your greatest achievement?
My children
If we arrived at your office today, what item might we be surprised to find on your desk?
Maryland Cookies. I know I should bake my own but they are yummy.
PERSONAL
Where were you born and where do you live?
Carlisle – both
Do you have a family?
A husband and two daughters – Ella, five, and Evelyn, two.
What’s the best thing about living in Cumbria?
The privilege of living in a community where you know your neighbour, we’re right on the doorstep to the Lake District and we have great food... cakes in particular ;)
How do you relax?
I don’t think I know what this is but I would like to be able to have a bubble bath without one of the kids jumping in!
Describe your perfect weekend...
Gorgeous sunny day with a BBQ, lots of wine and great family and friends. The simplest of pleasures can be the most perfect.
What’s your favourite film, TV show, book, download?
My fave film of all time is Gone with the Wind, I never tire of watching it.
TV Show has to be Vampire Diaries.
Book – I love anything by Sophie Kinsella, Martina Cole and Roald Dahl!
Most recent downloads were Bruno Mars and Adele
If someone made a film about your life which actor/actress would you want to play you?
I would love to say Angelina Jolie because obviously we are twins but I think Charlize Theron would be perfect as she can adapt to any role and I have a few chapters! She’d need to chill on the exercise though it’s a long time since I had a toned stomach!
What would you want your epitaph to say?
She had the best buns!
