CUMBRIA SCHOOL GAMES – THE FINALS

PENRITH

The first event saw more than 250 young people compete for their local district in the County Key Steps Gymnastics final in Penrith in March. The event was organised by the Cumbria Schools Gymnastics Association in partnership with the Cumbria School Games Local Organising Committee. Team Furness won four out of the six competitions on the day becoming double small schools winners and double large schools winners in Key Steps One and Two competitions.

CARLISLE

The largest of the three events was the multi sports county festival organised by the Cumbria School Games Local Organising Committee, held at the Sheepmount Stadium in Carlisle on June 27. In total 900 young people from across Cumbria represented their districts in, hockey, golf, netball, tennis, orienteering, athletics, table tennis, wheelchair basketball, table cricket and pan disability football. Team Carlisle emerged victorious in nine out of the 14 competitions on the day and accumulated further points from a further five second and third places. Team Eden won the hockey and orienteering competitions, while Team Furness were winners in golf, netball and table tennis.

WHITEHAVEN

The final event for 2012 took place on Wednesday July 4 at Whitehaven at the Copeland Athletics Stadium. The Year 7 County Athletics Finals were organised by the Cumbria Schools Athletics Association.

In total 300 young participants took part in various track and field competitions, with Team South Lakeland winning 13 of the 29 competitions on the day. Team Allerdale came second on the day.
