New Ulverston superstore would ‘make the A590 unsafe’

A NEW Sainsbury’s superstore in Ulverston could lead to hundreds more cars using the A590 each day and make the road unsafe, according to a town councillor.
This matter is far too important to be left to the backward looking Ulverston Town Council or the Kendal based LibDems and it should be left to residents to determine the need for such a store. By residents I mean everyone within the catchment area for the store, in particular Swarthmoor, where there are no shopping facilities and the SLDC has decided that we need hundreds of new houses.
Canal Head is a classic example of council prevarication and this shouldnât be repeated here.
The location is perfect as it falls midway between the town and Swarthmoor and already has an excellent bus service. Unlike Booths, that has no public bus service and is nowhere near as accessible.
I believe that there should be a ballot of all local residents and that just for once our so called representatives (councillors), should listen to the people they represent. That in itself would be a novel innovation.

Investment to increase capacity at Carlisle’s Lanes shopping centre is on the cards following a change of ownership.

A question for all the readers of these comments:
I for one don't get my comment in favour of maintaining a thriving shopping Ulverston centre without a supermarket published.Could it not be that we are experiencing some very biased media coverage of this toDon't you find that on this issue of new supermarkets that 90 percent of the comments are in favour of the Supermarket idea?
