Chartered financial planner Mike Turney has joined CMD Financial Solutions of Carlisle.

Mr Turney recently retired as HSBC’s area manager in charge of the bank’s financial advisers across Cumbria.

His new role at CMD, in Lowther Street, has turned back the clock – instead of managing a team he is once again advising clients face to face.

He said: “John Peart [one of the partners in at CMD] is a friend of mine. I gave my notice to the bank on a Monday at the end of July. John rang on the Tuesday and asked would I be interested in joining them.

“At 57, I knew I wanted to do something else. I didn’t want to sit around. This is back dealing with customers personally, which is what I have always enjoyed.”

He is one of only 2,000 chartered financial planners accredited by the Chartered Insurance Institute.

Chartered status is regarded as the ‘gold standard’ for professional financial planners and advisers.

Mr Turney was born in Carlisle and joined HSBC – then Midland Bank – in 1973.

He lives at Wetheral and is married with two children. His son Craig also works for CMD.
