Armstrong Watson beat off competition from the world’s biggest payroll bureaux to take a top title.

The firm was named Employer of the Year at the ninth annual Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) Payroll and Pensions Excellence awards.

The national awards ceremony is the payroll industry’s most prestigious awards and recognises excellence in this field.

Armstrong Watson was shortlisted with some of the world’s biggest payroll providers.

The victory was the first secured by a regional firm.

Brian Stenhouse, director of Armstrong Watson Payroll Services, said: “This is a fantastic achievement, especially considering this is our first attempt at entering for any award.

“To be given this recognition by a professional body such as the CIPP is a great honour and will greatly raise the profile of the payroll team.
