The Government’s ‘Mister Business’ has reminded firms that the clock is ticking on chances to enter the CN Group Business Awards 2012.

Vince Cable yesterday announced new funding that will increase opportunities in the nuclear industry.

Speaking exclusively to the News & Star, Business Secretary Vince Cable called on companies to plug into the annual talent show as a chance to promote themselves, showcase their achievements and increase staff morale during the current downturn.

The high-ranking MP was touring the South Lakes and shared his thoughts as the door to the awards closes on Friday, August 10.

Mr Cable said: “As the country’s Olympic mood gets into full swing, celebrating the everyday successes of our businesses is crucial when workers and bosses are working round the clock to get our economy back on track.

“The CN Group Business Awards 2012 are a fantastic opportunity to showcase the range and depth of talent in Cumbria for businesses large and small.”

This year’s awards have the support of Barclays, Invest In Cumbria, and new CN business magazine In-Cumbria and its sister website, www.in-cumbria.co.uk.

A glittering black tie soiree takes place at Rheged, near Penrith, on October 18 to clap the county’s movers and shakers onto the stage with dozens of individuals on tenterhooks to win.

Mr Cable had praise for the awards run by the family-operated CN Group, owners and publishers of the News & Star.

Mr Cable said: “The CN Group have shown important vision in celebrating the success of high quality individuals and companies."

With award categories ranging from social enterprise and environmental awareness, to tourism and hospitality, there are many opportunities to get involved.

“In my visits to this beautiful part of the country I have always been impressed by the wit, initiative and creativity of local businesses and I’d encourage businesses to enter and get the recognition they deserve.”
