Judges wowed by wide range of acts at Lakes Got Talent

JUDGES had no need for the famous Britain’s Got Talent’s buzzers and bright red crosses when assessing the best performers Ulverston has to offer.
A Lakes version of the popular TV show got off to a flying start on Saturday, when 28 of South Cumbria’s finest acts turned out to Ford Park to showcase their talent.
Dressed in silver sequins, an undeniable star of the show was Cumbria Pole Art’s Sarah Ritch, who wowed the judges as she wrapped herself repeatedly around the metal bar with incredible ease.
The 29-year-old Barrow pole dancing fitness instructor said: “I’m hoping to show what pole dancing is about, and shake off some of the old-fashioned ideas of it.”
Theatre director and judge Jill Lyon summed up the feeling of the room with a simple “wow”, and added: “That blew me away.”
But there was plenty more to keep her and fellow Lakes Got Talent judges, Ulverston personality Ralph Spours, town stalwart Colin Williams and former professional dancer and actress Louise Walton, entertained.
From ear-splitting performances from drumming bands, Deat Beats and Boom Dang to daring routines from dancers such as 17-year-old Alice Stephens, the array of talent was truly impressive.
A touching performance from singer and guitarist David Miller moved some to tears while rock chick Angie Mac delivered an effortless performance.
The charity competition captured the imagination of people of every age, from the likes of 11-year-old singer Chloe Jackson to well-known crooner Stevie Free, who has been on the music scene 36 years.
Organiser, James Farrow, a production runner for Britain’s Got Talent, said: “I’m completely overwhelmed with the response.
“The variety and level of talent was just brilliant.”
The next round of auditions will take place at St Paul’s Scout Hall in Barrow on Sunday, with booked slots in the morning and an open drop-in from 12.30pm.
