Shorlists announced for Energy Coast business awards

Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster has announced the shortlists for its annual Business Awards.
John Grainger of Invest in Cumbria chaired the panel of shortlisting judges, which also included Gill Marsden of NIS (based in Copeland) and Tom Gilroy of Britain’s Energy Coast (based in Allerdale).
Mr Grainger said: “We went into this process keen to celebrate the best of West Cumbrian business and we’ve been flexible on the size of the shortlists, giving credit where credit is due and recognising the more limited resources available in some of the smaller organisations.
“We were unable to select fewer than four in the Commitment to West Cumbria Award – I am afraid that the final expert panel in that category is going to have a particularly tough job choosing between some excellent submissions.”
The categories, sponsors and shortlists are as follows:
Excellence in Health and Safety
Sponsored by Tata Steel
Shortlisted companies: National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL); NSG Environmental
Business Innovation
Sponsored by Britain’s Energy Coast (BEC)
Shortlisted companies: NLTV Ltd; PacTEC EPS Ltd; Sundog Energy Ltd

Shortlisted companies:
Lakes College West Cumbria; The Learning Planet

Large Business of the Year

Small Business of the Year

Judging will take place over the summer and BECBC is also investing in filming at each company’s Cumbrian location so that there are words and pictures to reinforce the entry submissions at the Awards ceremony itself in November.
Phil Jardine, Business Development Director for BECBC, said: “We’re working with a local Cumbrian company, Tony Wilkinson of Red Onion from the south of the county and he’ll be capturing the key aspects of each shortlisted company’s entry in a brief film that will then form part of the ceremony and dinner at Energus.
Winners in each category will be announced at the gala dinner at Energus on 8 November and tickets for that occasion are on sale now.
