UNEMPLOYMENT in Cumbria fell in June for the fourth month running.
Official figures show there were 8,779 people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance, 343 fewer than in May.
The county’s unemployment rate fell from 2.9 to 2.8 per cent.
Carlisle’s jobless total dropped by 80 to 2,278, giving the city an unemployment rate of 3.4 per cent.
Allerdale’s total fell by 117 to 1,865 (3.2 per cent), Copeland’s by 42 to 1,593 (3.6 per cent), and Eden’s by 29 to 400 (1.3 per cent).
Nationally, the seasonally-adjusted claimant count rose by 6,100 to 1.6m.
But the rolling total, which includes people not eligible for Jobseeker’s Allowance, fell by 65,000 to 2.58m.
Average earnings increased by 1.5 per cent in the year to May.
