Barrow builders say Cumbria's economic good news is helping construction industry

An award-winning Barrow-based construction company says recent good econmoic news for Cumbria is helping to fill up its order book as it completes its latest multi million pound residential development.
Leck Construction Limited of Ironworks Road, has created seven large and exclusive modern designed family homes in the prestigious Chetwynde Park development using some of its 70-plus craftsmen.
During economic downturns, the construction industry can sometimes be the first to suffer but Leck’s order book is strong with new developments lined up in the Lake District and Furness.
The new properties are in one of the area’s most sought after sites in a quiet cul-de-sac close to historic Furness Abbey and the company says is an indication of confidence in Cumbria following new job announcements like GlaxoSmithKline’s plans to build a £350 million factory in nearby Ulverston, creating 500 new jobs.
The high quality mix of four-bedroom properties with ensuite facilities, modern fixtures and fittings, eco-friendly features, gardens and bespoke lay-outs, start from £399,950. Two have already sold through one of South Cumbria’s leading estate agents Corrie and Co.
Andrew Murphy, Commercial Director for Leck, said: “Leck Constructon Limited is delighted to have completed the Chetwynde Park development. It is a high quality new addition to Barrow’s housing market which bears all the hallmarks of our superb standards. As a local Barrow company, we are always immensely proud to be behind the next generation of family homes and buildings for the town.”
Leck is Barrow’s longest established and trusted construction company, having been established over 65 years ago. As well as residential housing developments, it also manages industrial, commercial and educational building projects on behalf of the public and private sector; as well as large scale restoration works.
In recent years, Leck has been responsible for some of the most iconic buildings on Barrow’s skyline – including the magnificent £2.8 million Emlyn Hughes House on the site of the dilapidated former Astra Cinema, the impressive £2 million Barrow Magistrates’ Court and the award-winning £1.5 million Dock Museum. It also restored the steeple of Barrow’s magnificent St James’s Church and the ancient Conishead Priory near Ulverston.
