A LARGE flock of ducks is expected to take over Grange shops this summer.

Residents are to keep an eye out for the feathery visitors, who are expected to land in the town in July.

The brainchild of Ian and Pauline Wilson, from Grange, the ‘Go Quackers in Grange’ duck trail will raise money for the Michelle Jurd Memorial Trust.

More than 40 businesses in the South Lakes town have sponsored the model ducks, which will take pride of place in their shop window ‘nests’ once decorated.

A map will be produced to guide visitors along the trail, before the ducks will eventually be sold at auction in September.

Mr Wilson said: “We have been looking for sponsors to provide a nesting site for the ducks, which can be decorated in the sponsors own colours, nationalities or theme whether serious or amusing, all dependant on the imagination of the sponsor. At present we are expecting 47 different ducks and maybe more.

“Perhaps we will see ‘The Mallard’ at the railway station, visit ‘The Quack’ at a local medical surgery or have ‘Tea-l for two’ at a café in town.

“We have had an eggcellent response from Grange businesses and hopefully our local residents and summer visitors will enjoy the challenge of duck hunting, raising the profile of the town and generating funds for the trust.”

The ducks’ final nesting place will be decided at an auction later in the year.

The Michelle Jurd Memorial Trust was set up in honour of the 41-year-old former RAF officer who was killed in a crash on the A590 in November 2009.
