Colourful wellies were the fashion item of the day but they were never needed at Maryport’s Glassonbury music festival on Saturday.

While the weathermen predicted torrential rain, the sun shone with only the occasional threatened shower that never came.

But Glassonbury was affected by the weather in one respect. The Whodlums, a Who tribute from the North East, were unable to attend the festival after their equipment was destroyed in flash floods.

It hardly seemed to matter to the 700-capacity crowd at Glasson Rangers rugby league club, who enjoyed a range of music from mainly local bands and artists.

The favourite of the night was Collision, whose members hail from Maryport and Cockermouth, but every artist had a following and added to the good-natured atmosphere of the day.

Glassonbury was set up three years ago to raise money for Help for Heroes.

This year’s recipients were Help for Heroes and the Teenage Cancer Trust and it raised £4,000.
