CHLOE Booth is a director of Total Dental Ambleside Ltd and also runs South Lakeland Ceramics and Pearl Beauty Kendal Ltd.

She was recently nominated for Health and Beauty Business of the Year at the Enterprise Vision Awards, which recognises the achievements of businesswomen in the North West.

What school did you go to?

Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School.

What was your favourite subject?

Art.

What qualifications did you leave with?

Eleven GCSEs and four A-Levels.

Did you go onto further/higher education – if so, where and what to study?

Newcastle University, and dentistry, but I left pretty early on!

What was the best advice/learning you got at school or college?

I got a fantastic, rounded education at LGGS. There was no one piece of best advice or learning that I can remember particularly, just that I loved being there, and thought that it was a great place to learn. Our teachers were passionate and dedicated and I remember my time there warmly.

What was your ambition before you got your first job?

I had no career thoughts before my first job, I just wanted to have a horse!

Did you have a role model you looked up to and why?

My mum and dad are my role models. They are honest, kind, hardworking people with strong principles, old fashioned values and they graft. My dad is still ambitious at 61.

What jobs had your family done in the past?

All my family is medical or dental!

What was your first job?

My very first job was as a waitress in a vegetarian restaurant in Garstang.

What has been your career path between your first job and the one you do today?

I went to university briefly, then came back and sewed pockets onto uniforms at CCM in Garstang until I got sacked for getting the machine in too many knots! I then went to work for NWS, part of the Bank of Scotland in Chester for a couple of years as an administrator.

Following NWS, I joined MBNA International Bank and worked for them for 10 years, finishing my time there as an international educator.

After MBNA, I started to work for my dad as a practice manager, and subsequently I’ve become a director of the company. Then, late last year, I bought what was Caron Turner Holistic and Beauty Therapy in Kendal, now Pearl Beauty Kendal Ltd. I’m the director at Pearl as well as having responsibility for administration of Total Dental Ambleside.

What’s the best thing about your job?

I work with my family.

What one thing would you change about your job if you could?

I’d lift it up and move it a bit closer to my house.

What advice would you give someone who is starting out today?

Be fair, honest and surround yourself with people who have similar values to yourself.
