Work is starting to introduce 4G to users of one mobile phone network.

O2 is scheduled to start in the week beginning Monday, February 1 to bring the service to Carlisle, as well as improving its 2G and 3G network.

Subject to installation and subsequent testing, customers will see the new and improved service in the following weeks. During the work, signal may be intermittent.

Derek McManus, chief operating officer at Telefónica UK, said: “O2 customers in Carlisle will soon be able to experience faster mobile internet on their devices such as streaming high definition TV, shopping on the go, and video calling.

“For our business customers, 4G is all about working more effectively. They can work remotely, access cloud services, collaborate using apps and so on.”

O2 is spending £600 million in 2016 on its network and by the end of 2017. The provider currently offers 4G in more than 600 towns and cities across the UK.
