A MAJOR American company is setting up its main UK hub in West Cumbria.

Stoller Newport News Nuclear will be based at Westlakes Science and Technology Park, with the official opening taking place on March 1.

The subsidiary of Huntington Ingalls Industries has over 50 years of experience working in the nuclear industry and has its headquarters in Virginia.

Now it is looking for opportunities in the UK market, particularly at Sellafield, where it completed a successful management consultation programme with the Contaminated Land Group at the nuclear site, in 2011.

The Cumbrian office will be led by a management team, including Robert Granata.

In addition to targeting Sellafield contracts, its Cumbrian team will be looking for opportunities arising from North and Irish Sea oil and gas decommissioning.
