DCI vows to find out how Barrow man died

A POLICE boss has vowed to continue the quest to discover how a man died a violent death in the street.
Paul Green, 44, died after he was found unconscious in Penrith Street, Barrow, in May with a serious head injury.
Andrew Logan, 43 , was arrested and charged with his manslaughter but cleared in Preston Crown Court on Tuesday after the case against him was judged too weak to go to trial.
The court heard Mr Logan, who had been bailed to an address outside the area, escorted Mr Green out of the Rams Head Hotel on May 3 and was seen standing over him as he lay on the floor outside.
Mr Green was injured in an altercation and his blood was found on Mr Logan’s trousers.
However, there was no evidence linking him to the scene where Mr Green was eventually found.
Detective Chief Inspector Bob Qazi, of Barrow CID, said police would continue trying to find out how Mr Green died.
He said: “The exact circumstances of the events that night are still uncertain.
“A murder investigation is not being re-opened but we are still appealing for anyone with information regarding the events that have not already come forward to contact the police and we will consider it and act on it appropriately.
“We are still committed to finding out what happened that resulted in Mr Green’s death. My team of detectives at Barrow have worked tirelessly on the inquiry and we will deal with any further evidence or information we get positively and professionally.”
The prospect of a third party being involved in Mr Green’s death was raised at the court hearing.
It also heard he had been drunk on the day he died and could potentially have fallen and suffered a fatal head injury by accident.
DCI Qazi said: “The issues of a third party being involved or an accidental cause may have been mentioned in court because the exact specifics of what has happened cannot currently be established, therefore there are always other possibilities, but it is not the position of the police to speculate as we only deal in facts and substantiated evidence.”
Mr Green, of Adelphi Court, was the last of three brothers to die in tragic circumstances.
His brother, Barry, was stabbed to death in Barrow Park in November 1999, and their other brother, David, died from leukaemia, aged 11.
