Man charged with arson that caused £200,000 damage to farmhouse

A 47-year-old man is to appear at Carlisle Crown Court charged with arson that caused £200,000 damage to a farmhouse.

Andrew David Coward, of Low Brough Hill, Askham, appeared before city magistrates but did not enter any plea.

He is charged with arson on December 5 at the farm at Low Brough. The property belongs to United Utilities.

Prosecutor Pam Ward told the court it would take £200,000 to bring the property back to habitation.

Coward will next appear before a judge at Carlisle Crown Court on November 18.
