Cumbrian chartered accountants star in cartoon capers

If Disney ever make a film about chartered accountants, Cumbrian firm Dodd & Co might well have a starring role.
The company has commissioned three short animated films to promote its specialist know-how in corporate recovery, farming and healthcare.
They feature cartoon versions of eight employees – Heidi Fowler, Jeanette Brown and Faye Armstrong in healthcare, Ian Brown, Rob Hitch and Robert Wharton from the farming team, and from corporate recovery Jackie Kirsopp, Jeanette Brown again, and a bikini-clad Carol Tindal.
In each film, they rise to the challenge of helping clients through difficulties.
Dodd & Co has offices in Carlisle and Penrith and employs 120 staff, and is nationally recognised in its expertise. The firm’s staff often attend seminars and exhibitions.
The animations were designed to raise its profile at these events and show the modern face of accountancy, countering the grey-suited cliché.
The cartoons were created by 2D animator Martin Hopwood, a graduate in computer animation from the University of Teesside, who was employed under the University Of Cumbria’s business placement scheme.
Mr Hitch said: “Not every accountant can say they have a cartoon version of themselves.
“We were delighted to work with home-grown talent to raise our profile on the national platform.
“We’ve also touched on some sensitive topics in the films, but we hope this shows we can handle all of our clients’ needs.”
The animations can be viewed at www.youtube.com/user/doddaccountants.
