Police are hunting two suspects who stole a woman’s bank card and used it to withdraw £220 from her account.

The offenders watched the victim enter her PIN when she was buying items at the Penrith branch of B&M Bargain stores in Middlegate on Wednesday.

Police say the pair, a man and a woman, followed her through the shop and the man claimed that she had dropped a £10 note.

When she accepted the money he told her it was not hers and that it belonged to the woman suspect.

But, when the victim opened her purse to retrieve the cash, the man went into her purse removing her card and walked off.

The victim reported her card stolen but was told the pair had already withdrawn £220 from the branch of Lloyds TSB in King Street.

The theft was at 12.50pm and the male suspect was described as in his 30s, 5ft 5in tall, with a slim build and short dark brown hair.

He was appeared to be of Asian origin and was wearing a grey linen suit.

The woman had dark brown, messy, shoulder-length hair, was 5ft 2in tall and was of slim to medium build. She was wearing a poncho-type shawl, dark skinny jeans, and white baseball shoes.

Call police on 101.
