PETER Rabbit has made a very special delivery at a Barrow maternity unit.
Mothers, babies and hospital staff at Furness General Hospital accepted a special birthday present from the popular children’s book character this week.
To mark his 110th anniversary, Peter Rabbit, from The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction in Bowness-on-Windermere, personally presented his own gift to the maternity unit at Furness General Hospital.
The iconic bunny donated a series of bright and colourful pictures, featuring popular Beatrix Potter characters, to adorn the walls of the unit and give it an additional feeling of welcome and warmth.
The eight maternity-themed pictures with contemporary frames include photographs of Peter Rabbit, Mrs Tiggy Winkle, Jemima Puddleduck and Peter’s cousin, Benjamin Bunny.
Sue Knowles, matron, maternity services, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are very grateful to The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction and would like to thank them wholeheartedly for helping to brighten the maternity unit with this fantastic new artwork.
“The pictures are already proving to be a talking point and staff, patients and visitors are delighted with the scenes depicted.”
Andy Poole, Chief Executive, The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, added: “We commissioned the latest pictures to replace some of our older artwork and provide a fresh perspective to many of our characters.
“Furness General Hospital maternity unit was the ideal choice for these pictures and we are really pleased to have been able to work with the trust to help improve the ambience of the surroundings for families and their newborn children.
“We hope that they will be a feature of the unit for many years to come.”
