About 1,300 youngsters from 10 schools took part in the Cockermouth Olympic Games this week.
The games, held on Fairfield Junior School’s playing field on Tuesday and Wednesday, split the youngsters into three age categories – key stage one, years three and four and years five and six.
They were split into Olympic countries including Germany, Italy, Argentina, Ireland, Brazil and Great Britain, Kenya, India and Jamaica.
Each age group had an opening ceremony and took part in several sporting events.
Pupils from Cockermouth’s Fairfield infants and junior schools, All Saints, St Joseph’s, Broughton primary, Dean, Lorton, St Bridget’s in Brigham, Bridekirk Dovenby and Eaglesfield Paddle took part.
It was originally planned to have 10 events on each day, but only five were possible on Tuesday because of rain while on Wednesday, only seven were possible.
They consisted of the marathon, javelin, long jump, hockey, target size, sprint, shot putt, high jump, obstacle course and hurdles.
The event was organised by Chris Wright, of Wright’s Sport Services.
He said: “We started planning this at about the beginning of May and it has been a big task getting all the kids organised.
“All the children who came first, second and third will remember it for the rest of their lives being up on the podium and getting their pictures taken.
“It inspires them to take part in sport and hopefully they can develop in their sports in the future.”
