REPRESENTATIVES from a construction company visited a primary school to talk about health and safety and the exciting Furness project they are working on.

Employees from Kier Group went to Newbarns Primary School, in Barrow, to teach the children about construction site safety.

Kier is the firm which is constructing Furness Academy’s £22.5m new build, at the academy’s South Site, off Park Drive, in Barrow. Visitors Robert Ianson and Liz Millican were able to tell the children about the good progress on the building, which is opening in September.

The children got the chance to wear some of the equipment, such as hard hats and high visibility jackets, that construction workers wear on site.

Kier's Chris Ryder, the senior project manager at the Furness Academy site, said the visit was part of the company’s community work and that the children had been very excited to hear about the project and construction site safety.
