Brave Millom boy's Legoland dream trip

YOUNG Jack Mossop’s dreams are coming true.

Thanks to the Starlight Children’s Foundation, seven-year-old Jack and his family will jet off to Denmark to visit the home of one of his favourite toys – LEGOLAND Billund in Denmark.

Jack’s mum Laura’s charity fundraising appeal has also smashed its target, raising more than £2,300.

Jack, from Lowther Road in Millom, was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome in 2008. After a six-month course of chemotherapy the following year, his family thought they were finally winning the battle with the illness but he suffered a relapse in June after almost three years of respite.

Jack’s family took part in a sponsored walk for the Nephrotic Syndrome Trust, which funds research in to finding a cure for the kidney condition. Among the donations was Millom Bike Group’s £560, after members took part in a 140-mile sponsored bike ride from Millom to the Lancashire coast.

Mrs Mossop said: “It’s been overwhelming, the support we’ve had from everyone. Not just from Millom but from around the country.

“We originally set a small target because not many people know much about Jack’s disease and we hadn’t spoken about it much. But it just snowballed.

“The amount of people in Millom that have just come up to ask how he is has been fantastic. It’s shown proper Millom spirit.

“Jack can’t believe how much people have donated. He set his first target of £50 and then said should we move it to £1,000 but I said there was no way we would get near it!”

Jack and his family are now gearing up for their trip to the home of Lego, in Denmark, after the Starlight Children’s Foundation granted his wish.

Mrs Mossop said: “We got a letter just before Christmas to say he’d had his wish granted.

“He got his first choice of going to Legoland, and then they said it would be in Denmark.

“He’s been looking forward to it all year but then he relapsed in June. But he’s doing OK at the minute.”
