A BATHROOM showroom says business is booming as they appear to buck the economic trend.

Nigel Fryer, owner of the Waterworks Studio in Ashburner Way in Barrow, says they have taken on three new staff members and are now opening on Sundays to meet demand.

He said: “Despite making a few cut backs, we have been very lucky as the recession hasn’t really affected us.

“Business has remained steady over the past few years and this year sales have sky rocketed. We are so busy, we now have jobs booked well in advance.”

The secret to their success is hard work and a commitment to delivering a high quality service, explains Nigel.

He said: “Word of mouth has helped to expand our client base. We do a very good job, so people recommend us to their family and friends.

“The recession has also ironically worked in our favour. As less people are moving house, more people are opting to renovate the homes they are already live in.

“We have, therefore, seen an increase in people wanting new bath or shower rooms.”

While many other businesses struggle to stay afloat, the Waterworks Studio is looking to expand.

Nigel said: “Noticing that we were missing calls and losing out on business due to not opening on Sundays, we have decided to stay open seven days a week.

“I have employed a new showroom assistant, Michelle, and we now have two apprentices, Matty and George, to work alongside our plumbers, Brad and Mike.

“We are hoping that these changes will help to draw in even more business, to allow us to carry on doing as well as we are.

“This in turn helps other local firms such as electricians, joiners, tilers, and carpet fitters to stay in employment.

“It’s vital that work is kept local.”
