Eileen Hogg has gone on trial at Preston Crown Court accused of attempting to wound with intent, another of attempting to wound, another of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent and a fourth charge of dangerous driving in Newton Brow, Barrow.
The 60-year-old, of Abbotsmead Approach, Barrow, is said to have gone at partner Barry Davies with a large kitchen knife. He turned away, but felt the knife going down his back.
He left the house and Hogg is later alleged to have repeatedly rammed his van while he was inside it, the court heard yesterday.
The jury was told the couple had been in a long-standing and volatile relationship at the time, with Hogg controlling Mr Davies.
She had imposed a 7pm curfew on her partner, but by January 23 this year, he had apparently broken the curfew two nights running.
Opening the case, prosecutor Mr Robert Golinski, said matters came to a head on January 23rd.
When Mr Davies got home that evening Hogg is said to have started shouting at him to get out of the house and threatened him.
Both were in the kitchen when Hogg is said to have picked up a kitchen knife with a very large blade.
Mr Golinski said: “The prosecution say she came at him with it, causing him to turn away from her. As he turned, she struck out with the knife.
“He felt the knife coming down his back. He got out of the house quickly.
“He left his coat behind and it seems she was slashing his coat with the knife. The prosecution say she had lost control.”
Hogg is then said to have rammed his van while Mr Davies was inside. The defendant was said to be driving her Vauxhall Frontera, which has bull bars on the front, at the time.
Mr Golinski added: “The prosecution say she repeatedly rammed his van, reversing driving into it deliberately three or four times.
“She was right in front of the van. She would have seen Barry Davies in the van. It would have been obvious he was there.
“The prosecution say she had an intention to harm him.”
When later interviewed by police Hogg denied that there had ever been a knife incident.
Regarding the “ramming” claim she seemed to accept having driven the Frontera into his van on one occasion, but denied Mr Davies was in it. She suggested it had not been done with any degree of force. The prosecution say this is a lady who is in denial as to what she has done,” added Mr Golinski.
Hogg denies the four charges. The trial continues.
