Barrow Raiders' ground to host gig

SOME of the hottest acts on the Barrow live music scene will come together on one bill for a new music festival.
The Barrow Raiders Music Fest will be held at Craven Park on Saturday, August 18 from 3.30pm and is aimed at celebrating the talents of local musicians.
The festival is the brainchild of avid music fan and Barrow Raiders director Andy Gaffney, who said it was high time the town had its own festival.
“I don’t think you can beat live music,” he said. “One of the reasons I am doing this is that the live music in this area at the moment is absolutely bouncing.
“There’s so many good, talented bands in Barrow that I thought, ‘why not put on a festival to showcase them.’”
Barrow-based five-piece Atlas will headline the festival and play songs from their soon-to-be released album.
Singer and guitarist Kris Coulton said he and the band were thrilled to be part of the first Barrow Raiders Fest.
“I’m really looking forward to playing at Craven Park and I think this is going to be a really good gig for everyone,” he said.
Also performing will be Freshman, Drunk in Public, Collie Stewart, Shed Sessions, Jamie Bosanko and Jade Connolly.
Mr Gaffney said seven acts – four acoustic and three bands – were confirmed and he hoped the event would be the start of something bigger.
“We’re having an outside stage in the middle of Craven Park and there’s going to be outside bars and food,” he said.
“I just think this is a really, really good idea and you never know, it might become an annual thing.
“In 10 years’ time, who knows what this could turn into?”
As well as showcasing the talents of local musicians, the festival will also raise money for charity Alice’s Escapes.
The festival has received support from the Barrow Raiders’ directors, HSP Milners, R & T Music and Ross Estate Agencies.Advance tickets are available from R & T Music for £5 and will be available at the gate on the day for £6.
Tickets can also be purchased from Ross Estate Agencies, Barrow Rugby Shop and the Raiders bar on match days.
