Barrow bids farewell to fallen hero

HUNDREDS of mourners turned out to say goodbye to soldier David Shaw at an emotional funeral in Barrow.
Barrow Borough Council flew the Union Jack at half mast from 1pm in honour of Kingsman Shaw, who died surrounded by family at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham on January 16.
The 23-year-old died after being shot when his checkpoint came under attack from insurgents in the Lashkar Gah District of Helmand Province in Afghanistan on January 14.
Kgn Shaw, who was serving with 1st Battalion The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, was flown back to the UK for treatment but never recovered.
His funeral was held at St Mary’s Church in Duke Street, Barrow.
