Applications flood in for Furness firm

A MAJOR Furness employer has been inundated with CVs since announcing it is creating more than 70 jobs.
Tronic, a Siemens Subsea business, received 130 applications in a week and the phones have been ‘ringing off the hook’, according to managers.
The subsea giant says demand for its work is high and foresees further growth in the future.
Wayne Singleton, human resources manager at Tronic, said his team have received so many applications that they cannot respond to them quickly enough.
“The calls are constant,” he said. “What we are trying to do is give everyone a response to say we have received their application but it is going to take time.”
The company – which designs, manufactures and installs subsea mate-able electrical and optical connection systems – is also taking on more apprenticeships than ever before.
It says it has filled all the positions it advertised for but hopes to take on even more next year.
Mr Singleton said he is expecting the job applications to keep flooding in and hopes to fill all the posts in the coming months.
He said: “Things are looking really positive for us.
“We have had even more demand for our products since Siemens took over – we have got such a healthy order book and we can’t get stuff out quick enough.”
And he added that he is keen to see that people in South Cumbria are the ones to profit from their expansion and to allay any fears that it will only be people from other parts of the country who reap the rewards.
He said: “That is not what we are about – we want to continue to employ people from the area.
“If we can get people from Furness and the South Lakes to do these jobs then that would be brilliant.
“We use local suppliers and we encourage people from the local area to apply for these jobs.”
