RAIL services between Carlisle and Glasgow via Dumfries face disruption today.

The RMT union has called a strike over ScotRail's proposal to bring in driver-only operation and driver-controlled operation on some services.

ScotRail expects only a limited number of services to operate today.

More strikes are planned for Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, and Sundays July 3, 10 and 17.

The union has also imposed an overtime ban at other times, which could lead to cancellations at short notice.

It says 75 per cent of its members supported strike action in a ballot.

The ScotRail franchise changed hands last year. The previous operator, First Group, was replaced by Abellio, a subsidiary of Dutch national railways.
