Transport firm Stagecoach Cumbria has been shortlisted for a top industry award.

The company’s Lakes Connection 555 service is among the finalists for the marketing excellence category at this year’s UK Bus Awards.

The nomination is recognition of the work Stagecoach has done to promote the service in Cumbria and also reflects the development of its services over the past 30 years, leading to a big increase in the numbers of people using buses in the Lakes.

Managing director of Stagecoach Cumbria, Matthew Cranwell said: “We have developed our Lakes services over the last 30 years, with two new fleets of buses and an increase to the peak operating season in the last two years alone.

“Using feedback from our driving team and our customers we have created services that meet the needs of locals and tourists alike, and look forward to developing our services even further this winter when our Lakesider 599 will go to Grasmere for the very first time.”

This year’s UK Bus Awards will be held in London at the end of November.

Last year Stagecoach Cumbria received a special commendation for the role it played in getting the Lakes back moving again following flood damage to the A591.
