More than 100 businesses attended a Google Garage event in Kendal last week.

Hosted by South Lakeland Council (SLDC) at the Brewery Arts Centre, the Google Garage session gave advice to businesses about how to improve their digital offerings.

The event revolved around two presentations, the first of which discussed how to make websites stand out on computers and mobile devices, and the second was an insight into digital marketing.

James Morris, of Taxis Kendal, said: “I found it very useful and gained lots of good ideas, particularly around the importance and types of social media.

“I would definitely recommend the event and found the handy digital booklets, which were given out by email, very useful.”

SLDC’s Invest in South Lakeland programme has now reached 1,000 business people with its regular networking and advice events.

Matt Williams, project officer for SLDC’s economic development team, said: “We were delighted to host this free Google event and to see so many South Lakeland businesses in attendance.

“Events such as this are important in providing our business community with a competitive advantage.

“This was an excellent opportunity to hear from experts and for businesses to have their questions answered.”
