THE holiday lettings agency Sally's Cottages has passed an online milestone by attracting 200,000 Facebook followers in two years.

The firm in Keswick has used the social media platform to rapidly grow its online business and now generates £230,000 a year in bookings through Facebook.

Founder Sally Fielding said: "We use our Facebook page for so much more than that [bookings]. We sell moments of happiness and the Lake District dream.

“Our daily posts feature beautiful, inspiring, images or video along with content that tells a story.

“We answer every comment, which creates a personal connection with our fans, and every month we run a Facebook cottage weekend giveaway. These can receive 11,000 comments."

She added: “Our social media strategy is focused on building long term relationships and developing front of mind awareness so that when our fans are ready to book a holiday cottage, they think of us first.”
