A CAMPAIGN, highlighting how the new Universal Credit opens up work, starts across the North West today.
The six-week campaign, which includes radio, press and online advertising, highlights how Universal Credit has simplified the welfare system, making it easier to start a job.
Universal Credit is a means-tested benefit that is designed to be simpler than the old system of benefits and tax credits, and to remove a disincentive to take short-term, part-time work. It replaces Jobseeker’s Allowance and five other benefits.
Cumbria began moving claimants onto the system in December 2014.
Minister for Welfare Reform, Sir David Freud said: “Universal Credit is central to the Government’s plans to create a fairer Britain that works for everyone.
“This campaign showcases the personalised support on offer to jobseekers, and how Universal Credit does away with the restrictive rules of the past."
