A newly established restaurant and bar in Windermere is aiming to change people’s perceptions of pork.

The Pig, based on Crescent Road in the town, opened on Friday and has a menu where 70 per cent of the dishes involve pork.

Mr Dutton, and his son Harry, who is also a chef, have created the menu including smoked pig, sweetcorn and potato chowder, homemade crisp bread and sage butter, a pig platter and slow roasted suckling pig.

The new restaurant has pork at the heart of its menu as Mr Dutton want to change people’s perceptions of the meat.

Mr Dutton said: “Pork is such a feel-good meat and I don’t believe we see enough of it on restaurant menus.”

“The Pig is all about good food, well cooked and where possible, locally sourced. It’s a very unique offering. We’ll be featuring a hog roast every day and some really unusual dishes.

“If you’re not a pork lover, we still have a wide variety of choice, so hopefully, there’s something for everyone.”

The new 40 seat restaurant is the brainchild of local restaurateur, Ian Dutton, who runs the Village Inn Bar and Grill in Bowness and the Miller Howe Cafe in Grasmere.

Mr Dutton opened The Miller Howe Cafe in Grasmere nine years ago and alongside his wife Annette, he has managed The Queens Head Hotel in Troutbeck for five years, and took over management of The Village Inn Bar and Grill in Bowness-on-Windermere, in 2011.
