Kendal and Penrith-based law firm, Napthens , has expanded its wills and estate planning team.

Solicitor Karen Yates has joined the firm and has 10 years of experience in the sector.

Kathryn Harwood, head of wills and estate planning at Napthens, said: “Growth in demand for advice on estate planning matters has continued to be strong, and following a number of appointments last year we are once again strengthening the team.

“Karen has valuable experience and will play an important role in ensuring our clients continue to have access to the high quality advice they expect.”

Sous chef at Carter at the Sun Inn in Kirkby Lonsdale, Bradley Jasper, has spent a month working at one of the best restaurants in the world.

The Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire, Heston Blumenthal’s three Michelin starred restaurant.

Mr Jasper, said: “Working with the chefs at The Fat Duck was everything I expected and more, it’s an unmissable experience for any chef.”

Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) is looking to recruit at least two new board directors from the private sector to help shape the county’s economic future.

Holders will get the chance to influence key decisions aimed at delivering growth, jobs and prosperity for Cumbria's economy.

These roles are likely to involve an overall commitment of two to three days per month.

George Beveridge, chairman of Cumbria LEP, said: “We are looking for outstanding individuals who are passionate about business growth and the need to seize the economic opportunities on offer for our great county.

“Their expertise will be crucial in providing strategic leadership, challenge, insight and support to the board."

BT Group has taken on 21 new trainee engineers from across Cumbria to help extend the fibre broadband network.

Openreach , which is the telecommunications giant’s network business, has also embraced the use of virtual reality to help the new recruits get a grasp of the challenges engineers face, including climbing telephone poles and inspecting underground chambers.

Across the UK, the firm is aiming to take on 1,500 new engineers, of which 150 will come from the north west, and 21 from across Cumbria with recruits joining from Carlisle, Windermere and Cockermouth.
