The dream of becoming Lord Alan Sugar's business partner is over for Cumberland sausage entrepreneur Oliver Nohl-Oser, who who was fired from the BBC TV series The Apprentice last week.

The 34-year-old, from Milburn near Penrith, had hoped that a joint venture with Lord Sugar would lead to expansion of his businesses, The Cumbrian Sausage Company and James Alexander Fine Foods.

He said: "It's been terrific, a tremendous experience."

The UK's Young Chef of the Year is now running his own kitchen. Arthur Bridgeman Quin has been promoted to lead the eight-strong team at the team at The Punch Bowl Inn and Restaurant at Crosthwaite, near Kendal.

He replaces another young head chef, Scott Fairweather, who was only 20 when he took charge in 2011. Under Scott's leadership, the gastro pub went on to win two AA rosettes.

Owner Richard Rose said: “Arthur, despite his youth, has grown beyond all expectations in the last 12 months and we’re all looking forward to seeing what more he and the team can achieve in the coming months.”

Commercial law firm Baines Wilson has promoted three of its solicitors.

Tom Scaife, 32, based at the Parkhouse, Carlisle, head office, has been promoted to partner in the employment department.

Katherine Sibley, 40, moves up from associate to partner and will head up the developing areas of construction and engineering, as well as handling contentious matters as a member of commercial litigation team.

She is based at the Lancaster office.

Also in Lancaster, Caroline Rayner, 33, has been promoted to associate. She has worked closely with employment specialists Joanne Holborn and Mr Scaife since joining Baines Wilson in 2014.

The employers' organisation the CBI has appointed Alistair Westwood as assistant regional director in the North.

Mr Westwood has been engaged with businesses in the CBI's North East and Cumbria region throughout his career, most recently through his role at the Nigel Wright Consultancy.

Prior to that, he trained with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Newcastle where he provided assurance services to clients. He lives in Sunderland and is married with two young children.

The design and marketing agency Liquid Studios, at Warwick Bridge near Carlisle, has appointed a new head of creative content.

Former journalist Nick Brownlee previously ran his own freelance news and PR agency.

He will be responsible for expanding Liquid Studio's in-house services, generating written content for press and digital media, TV and radio advertising campaigns, and creating audio and video productions.
