Three South Cumbrian venues have received awards from travel review web site Tripadvisor.

Abbot Hall Art Gallery, Blackwell and the Museum of Lakeland Life & Industry received Certificates of Excellence from Tripadvisor for consistently good reviews over the last 12 months.

The three Lakeland Arts venues were all awarded for maintaining an overall TripAdvisor rating of at least four out of five.

Synne Darwell, head of visitor experience at Lakeland Arts, said that the awards were a source of pride for the organisation.

She said: "We are proud to have received TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence award for all of the Lakeland Arts’ venues.

“We always strive to offer our visitors an enjoyable and memorable experience and this award shows that our hard work is resulting in positive reviews on TripAdvisor.

“The last few months has been challenging for Abbot Hall and the Museum.

“The facilities were badly affected by the floods in December 2015 and the Gallery lost its café and parts of the offices.”

There was also a concern that the increased humidity might have damaged some of the collections in the museum.

Mrs Darwell added: “The staff morale has remained high following the flood damages and the team is determined to get Abbot Hall back up and running with new improved café and other visitor facilities.

“Even with reduced facilities, it is great to hear and read how our visitors are enjoying the Gallery.

“We are really excited to introduce our temporary pop-up café later in the summer and this will offer our visitors a new exciting facility, whilst we continue to get Abbot Hall back up to normal."

Heather Leisman, vice president of industry marketing at TripAdvisor, said that recipients were internationally recognised.

She said: "With the Certificate of Excellence, TripAdvisor honours hospitality businesses that have consistently received strong praise and ratings from travellers.”

“This recognition helps travellers identify and book properties that regularly deliver great service.”
