Don't get left behind in business - here's how our Business Doctor Peter Fleming keeps upto speed with the business scene.
1. Download the best apps
One way is to download an app such as the BBC news and personalising the settings, so you get feeds of information which are relevant and useful to you and your business context.
2. Register with a business news site
Another option is to register with a business news website to receive bite size chunks of what’s happening through a daily or weekly blog. A good example and one that I use is www.In-Cumbria.com, there's a daily breakfast news feed and a weekly round-up.
There are plenty other business news sites out there linked to many business newspaper publishers.
3. Social media
LinkedIn is not just for looking for a new job, you can connect with key industry contacts and there are many groups you can register with whereby you will receive feeds and updates on industry news and events related to your business.
4. Breakfast news
Whilst travelling to work, such as Radio Cumbria’s morning news at 8pm, or BBC Radio 4 Today programme for a broader national viewpoint.
5. Google alerts - a must-have
If you haven't got Google alerts set up you need to do this now! With key words such as ‘Cumbrian business’ ‘New business Cumbria’ “industry you are in” etc. whereby you will be emailed any new and relevant information from the web as it’s published.
Expert advice: Taking a S.T.E.P back and focusing on your business
You may have heard the phrase, “Stop working IN your business and start working ON your business” but what does this mean and entail?
One area to spend a little time on, is being aware of what, where and which new opportunities may be worth targeting for your products or services, but also understanding the potential threats within the marketplace. However as a business owner or manager we can be very busy due to all the day to day incoming which is why sometimes we “can’t see the wood for the trees”.
With development of modern technology and the advancement of social media, news is generated in vast quantities and certainly travels fast. So keeping abreast of what is relevant to your business needs today and what may be the drivers affecting your business in the future can be only a fingers touch away!
So why not take a S.T.E.P. back from the day to day and spend some time working ON your business - this week.
Peter can help your business grow, increase sales, and even offers a free consultation.
