TWO cycling enthusiasts have invested £250,000 into opening a new bike shop.

Cyclewise will welcome customers in Cockermouth this weekend after owners Rich Martin and Craig Scott, who also run a store near Keswick, branched out into the town.

Three new jobs have been created with the launch of the store in South Street, which will stock premier road bikes alongside a range of family cycles.

The two bosses say they are passionate and qualified to deal with cyclists of all ages and abilities.

Mr Scott, director, said the shop would aim to provide outstanding service to all bike fans, whether they were looking for an upgrade, a specific build or their first bits of kit.

“We’re really excited to announce the opening of our new store in Cockermouth,” he added. “We pride ourselves on our workshops and the store will operate a modern facility using the latest tools and technology to maintain your bike.

“Our workshop will deliver work to the highest standards, whether you use your bike for commuting or racing.”

The official opening takes place on Saturday at the new site at Fairfield Buildings. The firm’s other branch is at Whinlatter Forest.

Mr Martin, director, said staff wanted to support cyclists on “every pedal” of their biking journey.

He added: “We don’t just sell bikes and kit.

“We love showing you how to ride your bike so that every time you get on it, you’re guaranteed a great time.”

Cyclewise has 25 employees across its business. It also sponsors riders.

As well as this, it has a Cyclewise Academy, which helps more than 100 children develop their cycling skills in a safe environment.

The academy is run by a group of parents with help from Cyclewise coaches.
