There is big demand for managers in Cumbrian businesses now and in the future, giving a huge opportunity to employees across the county.

It’s easier than you might think to train yourself up to move up to managerial and team leadership responsibility, with courses like this available right now.

These courses are designed to fit around your needs, are offered by Carlisle College in association with the Institute for Leadership and Management (ILM).

But why does Cumbria need more managers?

> Big developments are set to take place such as the proposed new nuclear plant in west Cumbria, requiring thousands of new workers and coordinators.

> Major investments are set to take place in nuclear technology, agriculture, tourism, skills, site and transport infrastructure, improving connectivity and flood resilience.

> Additional superfast broadband capabilities and a range of highways and cycling improvements are also being delivered.

> Thousands of new businesses are started in the county every year.

The Local Enterprise says that a smaller proportion of employers in Cumbria provide training for their staff than in any other LEP area

It also says the county has too few people qualified to senior levels, "especially given the forecast increase in demand for higher level skills."

It is vital for employers to make the most of investment and large-scale projects in the county by having the right staff in place.
