The driving test centres in Kendal and Barrow lead the whole of the UK when it comes to passing your driving test at the first attempt.

Kendal tops the table, with Barrow a close second.

In a report published by The Car People, and using data from The Office of National Statistics, the first time pass rate in Kendal is 67.8 per cent, and 66.6 per cent in Barrow.

Peter Whitehead, an instructor from Kendal Driving School in Natland said: "Most of the students that pass first time are from the local area, however we do get people coming to Cumbria from other areas such as London, as they think it is easier to pass their driving test here.

"I can see their point, as it would be a lot more difficult to drive in Preston than Kendal for example, due to the additional traffic and risks."

Mr Whitehead added: "I do have concerns of course, as once a student has passed his or her test on the quieter roads, they'll then be jumping in a car and driving around London or somewhere equally as busy, and would never have experienced that.

"I will say however that the instructors in this area are of a good quality though."

Overall, the driving test pass rate is the highest in 10 years, although the number of people taking their driving test during this period has decreased by more than 500,000.

Failed driving tests in the UK, over the twelve months to December 2016, cost learner drivers more than £23m

Jonathan Allbones, director at The Car People said: "It's great that so many more people are passing first time, however it just goes to show that the benefit of passing first time is a huge financial saving.

"My advice to any learner driver at present is to be patient, practice your driving skills, and take your test only when fully prepared."

Third in the league table is Ashton Under-Lyne in Greater Manchester, with Belvedere in London propping up the table with just 28 per cent of first time passes.

The data provided is for the period 2015-2016.
