CUMBRIAN retailer Bikeseven Cycle Service is set to open its second store.

The firm will open the doors at its new specialist cycling outlet in Market Street, Carlisle city centre, tomorrow (Tuesday).

This store has been described as a "concept store" and will focus on selling products manufactured by Scott Sports including bikes, clothing and accessories.

In addition, the shop will offer servicing to bicycles of all makes and also has some products made by other companies.

Bikeseven has been based in Sandilands Business Park, outside Longtown, since 2009 and this new store - which has been named Bikeseven Market Street - will operate in addition to the original outlet.

The firm is owned by father-and-son Daan and Levi van Belzen. It is the younger van Belzen who will be charge in Carlisle.

He said: "We have always wanted to move into the Carlisle area, it has just been a case of finding the right location and the conditions."

One new full-time position has been created by the store already and Mr van Belzen said he hopes to create more jobs in the future.

He added that the Longtown store was also due to "re-focus on customer service".

Cycling has grown in popularity over the last decade following the success of British competitors in the sport such as Sir Bradley Wiggins, Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton.

Mr van Belzen said: "Cycling is still a great hobby and a great means of transport."

He also believes that the shop's location - in the former premises of The Great Wall Chinese restaurant, opposite The Market Hall - will help the firm attract customers.

"We have looked at this location for the past couple of years," he said.

"We think it is a great location because you have got everybody looking when they come out of the market and are waiting for a bus."

The store has been completely refurbished to get it ready for tomorrow's opening.

Mr van Belzen estimated that this work had cost tens of thousands of pounds.

He also said that the store would make use of Longtown's staff to help cover absences wherever needed.
