Two Cumbrian tourism businesses have been selected as finalists at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2016.

Castlerigg Hall Caravan and Camping Park in Keswick and the Sun Inn in Kirkby Lonsdale have both been nominated for awards at the national event.

The Sun Inn has been shortlisted in the new Dog Friendly Business of the Year category, while Castlerigg Hall Caravan and Camping Park in Keswick has made the final five in the Holiday Park/Holiday Village of the Year category.

Both of the nominated business owners are excited about heading to the award ceremony, to be held on Tuesday March 8 at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.

Co-owner of the Sun Inn, Lucy Fuller said: “It’s exciting to be named as one of the top five dog-friendly businesses in the country by the national tourist board.

“As a business, we pride ourselves on offering the quality and service guests expect from a luxury inn with a fine dining restaurant, while also being genuinely welcoming to dog lovers too.

“We’re all looking forward to finding out the final outcome in Blackpool next month.” David Jackson, owner of Castlerigg Hall Caravan and Camping Park said: “We are absolutely delighted to be named in the top five Holiday Park / Holiday Village of the Year category in the national VisitEngland awards.

“The team at Castlerigg Hall works hard to offer the best experience possible for our visitors and it is fantastic to be recognised at this level. We can’t wait for Blackpool.”

Neither business will go home empty handed with gold, silver and bronze awards given on the night.

Managing director of Cumbria Tourism, Ian Stephens said: “It is a fantastic achievement for these two highly successful Cumbrian businesses to reach the final stages of these prestigious awards and represent Cumbria at a national level.

“I wish them all the best for the final and look forward to the results.”

Windermere Lake Cruises boatman Rob Beale is also one of eleven holiday heroes bidding to become VisitEngland’s “Tourism Superstar” and award up for public vote until the end of February.
