CARLISLE is gearing up to play a full role in Small Business Saturday tomorrow.
The national annual event, an American import, is in its fourth year.
The aim is to to persuade consumers to support small businesses on their doorstep.
Last year £623m was spent with small firms on the day and the event generated a huge buzz on social media, trending at number one on Twitter.
This time Carlisle is hosting a market in the city centre, which began on Wednesday and runs until Sunday, to coincide with Small Business Saturday and mark the first anniversary of Storm Desmond.
The market has been organised by Carlisle City Council.
Council leader Colin Glover said: "We wanted to give a big signal in supporting local producers and businesses.
"We want to celebrate everything that is fantastic about Carlisle this winter."
