A MAJOR independent retailer has confirmed plans to open a toy store in the former Argos in Barrow town centre.
Toy shop The Entertainer is advertising a number of positions for jobs in what is set to be a new store in Barrow.
A planning application submitted to Barrow Borough Council by Sapphire Signs details the new signage set to be put up at the former Argos store in Dalton Road.
The planning application reveals The Entertainer has a five-year lease on the unit. It is not yet known when the shop will open.
Husband and wife team Gary and Catherine Grant founded The Entertainer in 1981 when they opened a toy shop in Buckinghamshire.
More than 900 people work in the company's stores across the UK and a further 100 are based at the head office in Amersham.
At Christmas the retail team swells to more than 1,000, with an additional 700 recruited for the retailer's busiest time of year.
The Entertainer's nearest stores are in Workington, Lancaster, Preston and Blackburn.
A decision on the planning application will be made by June 16.
