A Barrow trades union is to join a train protest on Wednesday.
Representatives of the RMT Union will protest at the ‘Spirit of Barrow’ statue on Dalton Road and outside parliament.
Secretary of Barrow Trades Union Council Mandy Penellum said: “Having the guarantee of a guard on every train is crucial to keeping passengers safe, assisting disabled passengers, providing advice and reassurance, and dealing with any emergencies which may arise such as derailments, accidents, evacuations and fires.
“The notion that trains can operate safely without a guard once again shows that rail companies are more interested in their profits rather than in providing a safe service for passengers.”
She added: “Barrow Trades Union Council is proud to stand in solidarity with RMT members who are taking strike action to defend the safety of all train passengers.”
It is a year since the RMT Union began walkouts in the protest at the removal of the train guards by Southern Rail.
Members will go on strike within the area in support of the campaign on Friday.
It will affect Northern Rail operated services on the Lakes, Furness, Morecambe and Lancaster lines.
