A Cumbrian accountant wants the Government to recognise the role that small businesses play in the economy.

Trevor Morris, who runs TaxAssist Accountants, which has offices in Workington and Whitehaven, pointed out that there are millions of such firms across the UK.

He said: “Time and again, particularly during periods of change and uncertainty, they prove their adaptability and value. Local business owners will be looking to the new Government to support their enterprise and commitment and help them to grow.

“As new policy priorities emerge in a fast-changing post-Election climate, we’re urging the Chancellor to give clarity and support to small businesses across a whole range of issues, including business rates, corporation tax, self-employment status and digital tax reporting."

“The return on that investment – in terms of local jobs, local communities and the local economy – will be substantial. Small businesses across our region – independent retailers, service providers and consultants – have a big role to play in the future of our national economy,” he added.
