Accountancy firm Lamont Pridmore has signed up to the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development campaign.

This drive is designed to cut poverty, fight climate change and tackle both injustice and inequality with the aim of transforming the world by 2030.

Lamont Pridmore, which has offices in Barrow, Carlisle, Kendal, Keswick, Penrith,Whitehaven and Workington, is one of many Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales’ (ICAEW) members taking part in the project, which has laid out 17 goals for businesses and people to follow. It is looking to apply this to its everyday work and in the support it offers young people and communities.

The firm has its own charitable fund, the Lamont Pridmore Grassroots Grant Fund, managed by the Cumbria Community Foundation, which awards grants to organisations working with children and young people in Cumbria.

Chris Lamont, managing director in the firm's Carlisle office and a partner at the firm, said: “We naturally help economies to grow and improve profitability through our advisory work, and as a winner of the best business to work for award in the national Family Business Place Awards we constantly strive to provide a flexible and supportive working environment for our team.

"We already operate a fairly sustainable business and have already supported many of these Global Goals in a number of ways. However, when we learned about the UN Global Goals campaign we knew that we could do more and wanted to get involved. We are delighted to be giving something back through our involvement in this excellent project.”

Graham Lamont, chief executive of Lamont Pridmore, added: "We hope that our involvement in Global Goals will help us to explore new ideas, which can help to create a more sustainable world and a better future for all.”
