A long-established south Cumbrian cycle business has capped 18 months of change by rebranding launching a new website.

Velo Bike comprises the Velo Ulverston shop which was formerly Gill Cycles, the Velo Grizedale shop, and Velo Online.

In 2014 Gill Cycles was taken over by Grizedale Mountain Bikes (now Velo Grizedale), and moved to a new shop on Lightburn Industrial Estate, giving it more floor space and room for customers to park outside.

Gill Cycles was rebranded as Velo Ulverston, and the most recent development saw a new website, Velo Online, launched in a bid to attract UK-wide customers.

The new website allows customers to book bikes out to hire online from Velo Grizedale, as well buy new bikes and accessories.

Velo Ulverston manager Lee Rayton praised the recent developments.

He said: “The web presence of the shop helps the business because we get sales through the website and recognition from outside of this area.

“Moving the shop has given us more space, and improved parking was a big thing.

“Customers now have easy access by car and don’t have to worry about parking wardens when loading things into their cars.

“The road bike market has obviously grown well over recent years, but mountain bikes are also becoming a bigger selling market.”

Established over 12 years ago, Velo Grizedale is the only bike hire centre in Grizedale Forest. It’s unique selling point is the North Face Mountain Bike Trail.

Velo Ulverston was formally known as Gill cycles and has a long history in the town, and was originally based in "The Gill" in Ulverston.
