Creative Confectionery has closed its doors after over a hundred years of trading.

It was reported this morning that the Holme-based confectioners has closed its doors and is now out of use.

The factory and offices are now locked and there is no response from phone or email, Creative Confectionery and Mr Wilson have been unavailable for comment.

Creative Confectionery was rescued from administration in May 2015, saving 121 jobs in the area at the time though it looks as though financial issues have returned.

Relocation to a 40,000 square foot custom built premises had brought about a period of financial instability within the company which originally saw it being put into administration.

Based outside Holme, Wilson’s has been operating for over a century and was one of the original makers of Kendal mint cake.

The business developed into one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of chocolates for high-street retail customers in the UK and beyond.

Creative Confectionery is owned by Andrew Wilson, one of original founder JE Wilson’s grandchildren, and Mr Wilson acquired JE Wilson & Sons with the help of third party investor Bibby Financial services.

At the time of the takeover, managing director of Creative Confectionery, Mr Wilson said: “I'm delighted to have secured the jobs of so many hardworking and committed people, and to have preserved the future of a third-generation family firm.

“Our new partners have exceptional experience in the food industry, and have made a huge success of all that they do. We can learn a lot from them as our business develops.”
